Dhaka has been building more and more new buildings. This caused trees and forests to be cut down in order to make space. The green life of the city is really low now. However, the government has decided to open an urban forest in Purbachal. This forest will have different kinds of trees and animals which cannot survive in other forests.

ঢাকায় আরও নতুন নতুন ভবন তৈরি হচ্ছে। এর ফলে জায়গা তৈরির জন্য গাছ ও বন কেটে ফেলা হয়েছে। শহরের সবুজ জীবন এখন সত্যিই কম। তবে পূর্বাচলে নগর বন খোলার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে সরকার। এই বনে বিভিন্ন ধরনের গাছ ও প্রাণী থাকবে যা অন্য বনে টিকে থাকতে পারবে না।

The fast pace urbanization of Dhaka has meant that the green life of the city has been reduced. However, the government has decided to create the country’s first-ever urban forest. The forest will open in the Purbachal Residential Area. The Forest Department and RAJUK have teamed up for this project. The urban forest will cover an area of 144 acres located in Purbachal. Munirul Islam is the head of the Forestry Department of Dhaka. He said this urban forest will be used as a way to conserve the green life of this city. The forest will have different kinds of trees such as Bohera, and Kumbi. There will also be a Natural Learning Center, which will teach children about nature.

ঢাকার দ্রুত গতির নগরায়নের ফলে শহরের সবুজ জীবন কমে গেছে। তবে সরকার দেশের প্রথম নগর বন তৈরির সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। পূর্বাচল আবাসিক এলাকায় বন খোলা হবে। এ প্রকল্পে বন বিভাগ ও রাজউক যৌথভাবে কাজ করেছে। নগর বন পূর্বাচলে অবস্থিত ১৪৪ একর এলাকা জুড়ে থাকবে।
মুনিরুল ইসলাম ঢাকার বন বিভাগের প্রধান। তিনি বলেন, এই শহরের সবুজ জীবন সংরক্ষণের একটি উপায় হিসাবে ব্যবহার করা হবে শহুরে বনকে। বনে থাকবে বহেড়া, কুম্ভির মতো বিভিন্ন ধরনের গাছ। এখানে একটি প্রাকৃতিক শিক্ষা কেন্দ্রও থাকবে, যা শিশুদের প্রকৃতি সম্পর্কে শেখাবে।

Rapid unplanned urbanization has been engulfing the green coverage of Dhaka for the past few decades. However, a praiseworthy initiative has been taken to create the country’s first-ever urban forest in the Purbachal Residential Area. The Forest Department and RAJUK have joined forces in a collaborative effort to conserve and enhance Dhaka’s green spaces. The urban forest will encompass a vast area of 144 acres located in Purbachal. It will be the result of an upcoming memorandum of understanding between the two government bodies. Munirul Islam, the conservator of Forestry in Dhaka, said this urban forest will be designated as a special biodiversity conservation area. Furthermore, the forest will be recognized and protected under the Wildlife Act. He emphasized the intention to preserve the originality of the Shal forest. Especially since the area already consists of a forest that serves as a habitat for various wildlife species. The forest restoration plan involves the plantation of different kinds of unique trees, such as Horithoki, Bohera, and Kumbi. To promote research and facilitate nature-based education for children and students, a Natural Learning Centre will be constructed within the forest. Additionally, an office under the Forest Department will be established to manage and safeguard the forest against encroachment.

দ্রুত অপরিকল্পিত নগরায়ন গত কয়েক দশক ধরে ঢাকার সবুজ সমন্বিত অঞ্চলকে গ্রাস করছে। তবে পূর্বাচল আবাসিক এলাকায় দেশের প্রথম শহুরে বন তৈরির একটি প্রশংসনীয় উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। বন বিভাগ এবং রাজউক ঢাকার সবুজ স্থান সংরক্ষণ ও বর্ধিত করার জন্য যৌথ প্রচেষ্টায় যোগ দিয়েছে। শহুরে বন পূর্বাচলে অবস্থিত ১৪৪ একর বিস্তীর্ণ এলাকা জুড়ে থাকবে। এটি দুই সরকারি সংস্থার মধ্যে একটি আসন্ন সমঝোতা স্মারকের ফলাফল হবে। ঢাকার বন সংরক্ষক মুনিরুল ইসলাম বলেন, এই শহুরে বনকে একটি বিশেষ জীববৈচিত্র্য সংরক্ষণ এলাকা হিসেবে মনোনীত করা হবে।
