Everything but Arms is an initiative of the European Union. Under this, all imports to the EU from the Least Developed Countries are to be duty-free and quota-free. Duty-free means that the items will not have any taxes attached to them. Quota-free means that there are no limits on the amount of goods that can be imported or exported. The EU imported more from Bangladesh than any other country this year. This value is both in terms of US dollar and in volume . During the year, the EU’s knitwear import from Bangladesh was $9 billion against $8.96 billion from China. In terms of weight, the EU’s import from Bangladesh was 571 million kilograms, while it was 442 million kgs from China. This surge came thanks to Bangladesh’s recent expertise on athleisure wear. Athleisure items refer to casual, comfortable clothes designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear. Not only this, by 2024 Bangladesh is expected to regain the top spot in the US as well.
