Of the countries holding elections, Bangladesh is one of the most populated nations.
India, Indonesia and Pakistan are also on that list. The process of holding fair elections to choose a leader is known as democracy. Democracy has been happening for 2,500 years, since it started in Ancient Greece. Democracy has changed and improved over time. For example, not everyone could vote in the elections even 200 years ago.

Half of the world’s total population will participate in elections in over sixty nations to choose their new national governments. Of those countries, Bangladesh was one. However, our election is already well past us, which happened this past January. Bangladesh is among the most populous nations after India, Indonesia and Pakistan to hold their national elections this year. The concept of democracy has been in practice for 2,500 years, since it started in Ancient Greece. Other ruling systems, such as monarchy and dictatorship, see absolute power in one person or their families.
Under democracy, elections are held to choose a leadership to rule a country and its government. This system has evolved over time. For example, the idea that everyone gets to vote is also a fairly new addition to this system. Until a couple of centuries ago, minorities were not allowed to vote. But the 20th century finally saw changes to these rules. With Bangladesh’s election out of the way, its citizens can relax and watch the global show. As other major countries draw conclusions to their elections, the political landscape of the world will slightly shift.
