The government is going to introduce a uniform ticketing system for all public transport services including metro rail, buses, trains and launches. This will be done through the enactment of a new law. Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) has already prepared a preliminary draft of the act. They aim to implement a “One Card for All Transport” system. The system, called Rapid Pass Card, will be hassle-free and save people’s time and money. It will be introduced across the country. A committee was formed last month by the Transport and Highways Division for enacting the law.
They will hold a meeting in the coming weeks to scrutinize the draft. Currently, Dhaka dwellers are using two types of cards to avail metro rail services. One is the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) Pass, the other Rapid Pass. Rapid Pass is meant to eventually serve all forms of transport services – buses, trains, launches. However, currently it can be used only to pay the fare for metro rail, and some specific buses. On the other hand, the MRT Pass is only for metro rail service. Hence the government decided to enact the law to introduce a uniform ticketing system. People can avail all transport services using one smart rapid pass.
