Bangladesh has been writing more scientific papers in recent years. The country had more than 13 thousand papers published in 2023. However, India and Pakistan still wrote more papers. India wrote almost 3 lakh papers. Pakistan wrote almost 40 thousand papers. People who write the papers get a really low amount of money. This is the main reason why Bangladesh published only 13 thousand papers.

The number of publications from Bangladesh has been increasing in recent years. The country had 13,227 scientific publications in 2023. However, it still falls behind India and Pakistan. This is odd because all three countries have the same economic states. Last year, India published 2.92 lakh papers, while Pakistan published 39,922. No sponsorship and lack of funding are the biggest reasons for this.
These numbers were seen when the online magazine “Scientific Bangladesh” came out 8 January this year. According to the magazine, in 2023, Dhaka University had the top position. It had 1,410 publications. Daffodil International University came in second position with 1,080 publications. BUET and Jahangirnagar University were third and fourth.

The number of publications by Bangladeshi researchers has been steadily increasing in recent years. The country had 13,227 scientific publications in 2023. However, it still falls behind India and Pakistan in South Asia, despite the similar economic situation. Last year, Indian researchers published 2.92 lakh papers, while Pakistan published 39,922. Experts identified insufficient sponsorship and limited funds within the country as the main reason for the country’s backwardness in research. The online magazine “Scientific Bangladesh” released its annual report on scientific documents. It drew results from international journals until 8 January this year.
According to the magazine, in 2023, Dhaka University retained the top research position. It had 1,410 publications. Daffodil International University has also retained second position with 1,080 publications while BUET has obtained third position with 831 publications. Jahangirnagar University maintained its fourth rank as well. The primary subject areas for publications by Bangladeshis comprised engineering, computer science, medicine, environmental science, and social science. The report encompasses various document types beyond articles, including conference papers, reviews, and books, among others. This number should not be seen as a deterrent. The number of publications has been steadily increasing by the thousands each year, all the way from 2019.
